Getting started.

Three steps, none of which require you to have worked out what is wrong first.

The route in

Two ways in, and they are not the same speed.

Email reaches Shannon directly and she answers it herself. Maverick Psychotherapy Group is the practice she sees clients through, and is where scheduling, fees, insurance and paperwork are handled; requests there reach a clinical coordinator first, so ask for Shannon by name.

Step one
Email Shannon with what has been going on, or request a consultation through Maverick and ask for her by name.
Step two
A conversation about what has been going on, what you have already tried, and whether this way of working suits you. If it does not, Shannon will say so.
Step three
If it does, you agree on a regular time. Sessions are online and run about fifty minutes.

Questions

The things people ask before they book.

Who do you work with?
Adults, individually and as couples. The people who tend to find this useful are dealing with social anxiety, people-pleasing, C-PTSD, insecure attachment, high sensitivity, or a relational pattern that has stopped making sense to them.
Where do clients have to be located?
Anywhere in New York State. Sessions are held online, so it does not matter whether you are in Nyack, Manhattan, Westchester, Buffalo or a town nobody has heard of, as long as you are physically in New York at the time of the session.
Are sessions in person?
No. All sessions are currently held online.
Do you work with couples?
Yes, and with the same depth as individual work. Both partners need to be located in New York State during sessions.
How do I start?
Booking runs through Maverick Psychotherapy Group, the practice Shannon sees clients through. You can also email Shannon directly with a question first, at Admin@shannoncuthbertyates.com.
What does it cost?
Fees and insurance are set and handled through Maverick Psychotherapy Group rather than here, so the accurate answer comes from them. Maverick publishes its rates and the insurers it works with at their billing page, and you will have the figure before anything is agreed.
What is your licensure status?
Shannon is a Mental Health Counselor practicing on a New York State Limited Permit, under the supervision of Sascha Woolfe, LMHC. She is not yet independently licensed; full LMHC licensure is in progress. Practicing on a Limited Permit is a normal stage of licensure in New York. It means a fully licensed clinician supervises her work and reviews case material as part of that supervision, which is worth knowing before you decide.
How does Maverick Psychotherapy Group relate to this website?
Maverick is the practice through which sessions are provided and Shannon is supervised. This site is her own, and describes how she works. Scheduling, fees and paperwork run through Maverick.

If it is urgent

This is not a crisis service.

Email is read during working hours, and this site is not monitored for emergencies. If you or someone else is in danger, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911. If you are already working with a clinician, contact them directly.

Nothing has to be worked out before the first conversation.

When you are ready.

There is no rush in this. Email reaches Shannon directly. Maverick handles scheduling, fees, insurance and paperwork.
